Halfway into the season, it’s clear that rules are changing and they’re here to stay. Starting this Fall, the NFL and NCAA implemented stricter purse regulations to guard sporting fans’ safety – and UT Austin is no exception. On August 1st, 2017, Texas Sports passed The Clear Bag Policy. Under the new policy, game-goers are extremely limited in their choice of handbag; most purses and large totes are now prohibited from the stadium.
The question now remains: how is one supposed to look cute while wearing a plastic bag anyway?
Luckily, designers and brands everywhere recognize fans’ frustrations and have begun designing purses that fit these new restrictions. One such designer is locally based Kelly Wynne.
Wynne began designing handbags in Spring of 2012. Ever since her brand has really taken off. In just 2014, she was awarded Austin’s Rising Fashion Star during Austin Fashion Week. Her brand runs off of the motto, “dare to be fabulous”, encouraging women to celebrate their boldness through fashion. Despite the setbacks of stadium regulations, Wynne heartens sports fans by doing this seemingly impossible: make a plastic bag beautiful.
Pictured above is the Mingle Mingle Mini in clear/moon (the bag also comes in clear/black) and it is perfect. While it follows all size regulations, the Wynne design also has just the right amount of space for any gameday necessities. The golden metallic color is absolutely stunning.
In addition to plastic bags, her gameday line also includes purses that meet the 4.5”x6.5” requirement for non-transparent bags. Although these purses aren’t as roomy, they’re capable of holding the essentials: a cell-phone, some cash or a credit card, and maybe even a lip gloss. Her non-clear gameday purses, such as the Game Changer Mini, pictured below in “Red Haute”, give women more privacy, making them perfect for women who don’t feel comfortable exposing their personal belongings. The Game Changer Mini, which also comes in a navy “Blue Moon”, is a statement piece. I styled the purse with an all-white outfit in order to bring out the details in the snakeskin patch. I dressed the bag up by exchanging my cowboy boots with flirty peep-toed sandals.
Similarly, another Game Changer Mini bag comes in the shade “Dragonfly”, which is my personal favorite. With its brooding navy color and metallic accents, the purse is a vision (and not to mention, a photogenic dream). It’s snakeskin detailing is subtle with the metallicness of the purse, which is pictured below. I went again with a monochromatic theme to maintain contrast but decided to go with an edgier look to match it’s dark coloring. These miniature purses are not only well-suited for gamedays, but can be styled in so many ways for any occasion!
I love these bags and the variety of colors they come in. You are bound to find something to match your favorite team’s colors!
