As a college student, I constantly find myself dealing with the urge to pack up and travel the world. However, finding the time and money are my two biggest challenges.
Traveling doesn’t have to be expensive and it doesn’t have to mean leaving the state. Here are five affordable vacations and day trips for college students in Texas:
El Cosmico: Marfa, Texas
This unique hotel located in Marfa, Texas allows guests the option to stay in a teepee, trailer or yurt. With rates as low as $100 a night, this is the perfect, yet inexpensive get away.
Big Bend National Park
After a couple hours’ drive from Marfa and located in Chihuahuan Desert, Texas Big Bend National Park offers everything from rivers to exotic wildlife and mountains. Guests can tour the park by hiking, vehicle or horseback by day and camp out underneath the stars by night.
Austin Motel: Austin, Texas
This quirky motel located on South Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas dates back to 1938. In the time since, the motel has seen many retro renovations, making it perfect for cute photo opportunities.
Their motto “so close, yet so far out” rings especially true for Austinites, making it the perfect stay-cation if you’re craving a change of scenery.
Museum of Fine Arts: Houston, Texas
One of the largest museums in the United States, The Museum of Fine Arts offers a variety of different pieces to see. For non-Houston residents, this is the perfect day trip. Consider visiting on a Thursday, when general admission is free for everyone.
Cadillac Ranch: Amarillo, Texas
Another perfect day trip idea: visiting Cadillac Ranch. Created in 1974, the public instillation attracts a heavy volume of patrons.
Make this summer a memorable one by checking out one or all of these epic spots that the Lone Star State has to offer. •
