The ninety-degree weather and long summer days spent adventuring around town call for a lazy girl’s guide to an effortless summer glow. With great sun, comes great responsibility.

To put it simply, one’s skin care routine should take priority over makeup products to encourage healthy, hydrated skin and prevent sun damage.Ingrid Garcia heat waterproof dewy skincare routine makeup products sunThe Secret Aztec Indian Healing Clay is a holy grail item everyone should have in their bathroom cabinet consisting of pure calcium bentonite clay that acts as a powerful deep pore cleansing mask. The powder is to be mixed with equal amounts of either apple cider vinegar or warm water to create a smooth paste. The clay mask acts as a magnet and lures out the contaminants on your skin, due to an ionic pull. The ingredient is so powerful that it should only be applied once a week for 10-20 minutes.

Rosehip Oil is another affordable product you can find while walking the aisles of your local drugstore. I like to apply a small amount of oil all over my face and neck with a cotton ball (don’t over do it! trust me — a little goes a long way) after cleansing my face right before bed. Without exaggeration, the next morning your skin will be as smooth as ever. Rosehip oil is proven to help improve skin tone, texture and pigmentation with the oil’s fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamin A.

If you’re on the go and need a pick me up, one spritz of Mario Badescu Facial Spray with aloe, cucumber, and green tea provides instant hydration to dull skin on a day that the sun is blazing and your pores are sweating. It even comes in a travel size to throw into your pool or beach bag.

After following a religious skincare routine, the trick is to wear minimal and waterproof makeup that accentuates your golden tan and dewy skin. The last worry you want to have is the melting of your makeup when participating in water activities or summer walks around the town. How to Glow This SummerThe NARS Illuminator in Copacabana is the best thing to ever happen to my cheekbones! It is a high-end makeup product on the pricier side, but one small drop of the liquid highlight mixed into your moisturizer leaves the skin with a warm, radiant glow. During the summer months, it is best to leave the powdered highlights at home to prevent chalky, dry skin, and rather, invest in an easy applicable liquid highlight.

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Waterproof Mascara adds the perfect amount of volume and length to your lashes. I try to choose a color shade lighter than my natural lashes to maintain the simple look.

Lastly, let’s not forget about protecting our lips! Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lip Balm with SPF (also found at your local drugstore) keeps your lips protected from the strong sun rays. The best part? It’s a piña colada flavored balm!

There you have it: my tips and tricks for surviving in the summer’s heat. No one should have to compromise feeling and looking fabulous because of the inevitable dilemma of sweat. It all begins with a solid skincare routine and ends with minimal makeup. Try out some of these products and see what works for you to achieve that summertime glow. •
